RECOMMENDED TOOLS FOR HOSHIN KANRI

Tools of strategy management. Strategy management aka hoshin kanri is a method of total quality management (TQM) that employs a very large number of tools, including the 7 QC Tools and the 7 Management and Planning Tools. There are many excellent sources for these tools. We recommend:

Lunau, ed., Meran, John, Roenpage and Staudter, Six Sigma + Lean Toolset: Mindset for Successful Implmentation of Improvement Projects, 2nd Edition (Heidelburg: Springer, 2013).

Lunau, Staudter, ed., Von Hugo, Bosselmann, Mollenhaure, Meran and Roenpage, Design for Six Sigma + Lean Toolset: Mindset for Successful Innovations, 2nd edition (Heidelburg: Springer, 2013).

The toolbooks of the Lean Enterprise Institute and Productivity Press (most recently under the imprint Routledge) are also very useful.

In addition, Tom Jackson has developed specialized tools for hoshin kanri.

The 1st edition of Hoshin Kanri for the Lean Enterprise shipped with a CD-ROM that contained all templates, forms, tools and instructions employed in Tom Jackson’s version of hoshin kanri. Those same documents are available, in two volumes, for download here:
